Transfer standard

Transfer standard

A transfer standard (a reference standard that can be transported) is a secondary standard intended for comparing standards and verifying measuring instruments (MIs) that, for various reasons, cannot be directly compared with one another, for example, during international comparisons, when it is impossible to transport the sample, etc.

Transfer standards (TSs) are high-precision measuring instruments (or complexes of instruments) designed for transferring units of physical quantities from primary standards to the MIs being calibrated or verified. Transfer standards can be transported directly to the place of operation of the MIs subject to calibration or verification.
